xTool

xTool F2 Ultra

8.0/10 research score

60W MOPA + 40W diode, colour marking, 15,000 mm/s, for $5,299.

xTool

xTool F1 Ultra

7.9/10 research score

20W fiber + 20W diode, 10,000 mm/s, for $2,999.

The short answer

The F2 Ultra if metal is your business: three times the fiber power, MOPA colour marking, 50% more speed and dual 48 MP cameras. The F1 Ultra ($2,999) is the better buy if you engrave metal and wood gifts occasionally; its 20W fiber marks metal well, and the $2,300 saved buys a lot of stock.

xTool's F1 Ultra and F2 Ultra look alike and share a 220 × 220 mm galvo field, but the F2 Ultra roughly triples the fiber power and adds MOPA pulse control. Here is what the extra $2,300 buys, from xTool's own comparison table and reviewer findings (October 18, 2026). We have not tested them ourselves; see how we research.

What the MOPA adds

MOPA fiber lasers let you set pulse duration as well as frequency. In practice that means colour marking on stainless steel and cleaner deep engraving. FauxHammer found the F2 Ultra depth-engraves brass and aluminum rather than only surface-marking, though colour results depend on material and finish and need test grids. For marking serial numbers, logos and names on metal, the F1 Ultra's 20W fiber is enough.

Speed and cameras

The F2 Ultra's 15,000 mm/s and dual 48 MP cameras save time on batch jobs, which matters if you sell hundreds of items. For occasional gifts the F1 Ultra's 10,000 mm/s is already very fast.

Which to buy

  • F2 Ultra: a business engraving metal daily, wanting colour marking or deep relief. Read our review.
  • F1 Ultra: occasional metal and wood personalisation, or a first metal machine on a smaller budget.

Both are certified Class 4 despite their covers. See best laser engravers for metal for non-xTool options such as the LaserPecker LP5.

Frequently asked questions

Can the F1 Ultra do colour marking?

Not like the F2 Ultra. Colour marking on stainless steel relies on a MOPA laser's adjustable pulse duration; the F1 Ultra's 20W fiber is a standard fiber source. Both mark and engrave metals.

Do they have the same work area?

Yes. Both engrave 220 × 220 mm, or 220 × 500 mm with the conveyor.

Is the F2 Ultra the same as the F2 Ultra UV?

No. The F2 Ultra UV is a separate $4,299 machine with a 5W UV laser for glass and crystal.
