Research, not hands-on testing

LaserEngravers reviews and compares laser engravers using manufacturer documents, published measurements and owner reports, as explained in how we research. Unless an article says otherwise, we have not tested the product ourselves. Real-world results depend on your material and setup: the exact wood, acrylic or metal, its coating and moisture, focus, power, speed and number of passes, air assist, and how clean and well maintained the machine is.

Not professional advice

Our troubleshooting guides cover common, low-risk fixes. They are not a substitute for the manufacturer's instructions or a qualified technician.

  • Eye protection: an open-frame laser (usually Class 4) can blind you instantly, including from reflections you can't see. Wear safety glasses rated for your laser's wavelength and optical density whenever it runs, and never look at the beam or its dot. Enclosed Class 1 machines are safe to watch only with the lid closed and the interlocks working; never defeat a lid sensor.
  • Fire: lasers burn material by design and flare-ups happen. Never leave a running laser unattended, keep a suitable fire extinguisher within reach, keep the bed free of scraps, and use air assist as the maker recommends.
  • Fumes and materials: run the laser with ventilation or a fume extractor as the maker instructs. Never laser PVC, vinyl, faux leather or other chlorine-containing plastics, which release corrosive and toxic gas. Check a material's safety before you laser it; if you don't know what it is, don't cut it.
  • Children and pets: keep them away from a running laser and its fumes, and lock away safety keys where a machine has one.
  • Electrical: CO2 machines use very high voltage inside. Switch off and unplug before cleaning or adjusting anything, and leave internal repairs to a qualified technician.
  • Opening, modifying or repairing a laser may void its warranty and its safety certification. Check the warranty terms first.

Accuracy

We check facts against their sources and correct mistakes we find or are told about, but specifications, prices, firmware and availability change, and makers sometimes update products without notice. Confirm important details with the maker or store before you buy.
